Sick Love Vinyl Version

Listening notes

V/Vm's Sick Love Vinyl Version was released in 2001 on V/Vm Test Records under catalog number OFFALP03. The release is classified across five genres — Electronic, Leftfield, Noise, Plunderphonics, and Pop — a spread that at minimum signals an intent to operate across and between established categories rather than settle comfortably within any one of them.

The record is a standard two-sided vinyl LP with ten tracks divided evenly across its sides. Side A opens with "The Best Baby," the shortest piece on the record at one minute and fifty-five seconds, before moving through "I Need Lard" at four minutes and seventeen seconds and "Just The Way You Are xx" at four minutes and forty-one seconds. "The Rain" is the longest track on the A side at five minutes and two seconds, followed by "Take My Beef Away" at four minutes and ten seconds. Side B begins with "Angels" at four minutes and one second, then "A Perfect Moment" at three minutes and thirty-five seconds, "Two Can Play That Gammon" at two minutes and thirty-eight seconds, "Words" at four minutes and six seconds, and closing with "Together In Electric Drains" at three minutes and fifty-three seconds. The full runtime across both sides totals approximately thirty-eight minutes and eighteen seconds.

The track titles — several of which appear to modify or corrupt recognizable phrases and song names — are consistent with the plunderphonics designation listed for the release, a genre associated with the transformation or appropriation of existing recorded material. Whether or how that approach manifests sonically is not addressed here.
