Vinyl Virgins

Listening notes

Vinyl Virgins is a various-artists compilation released by Virgin Records in 1981 under catalog number Virgin 1C. Despite its name, the release was issued on cassette rather than vinyl, a detail collectors and cataloguers should note when tracking down this title. The compilation spans a broad stylistic range as documented, with genres listed including ambient, electronic, new wave, pop, punk, rock, and synth-pop, reflecting the eclectic character of the Virgin roster at the time.

The cassette is arranged across two sides. Side A opens with "Bullet Proof Heart" at four minutes and eleven seconds and continues through five additional tracks, closing with "A Song From Under The Floorboards" at four minutes and fifteen seconds. Among the titles on Side A are "Underpass," "Marianne," "My New Career," and "Promise." Side B runs from "Silly Thing" through to the closing track "Memories," which at five minutes and five seconds is the longest selection on the release. Other Side B entries include "Respectable Street," "About Insomnia," "Celt," and "The Tide Is High" at two minutes and forty seconds, the shortest track on the cassette.

Across both sides the total tracklist counts twelve songs. No personnel, production, or artist attribution information is available in the verified data for this release, so those details are not reported here and will require additional sourcing before publication.

As a label sampler issued by a major independent, Vinyl Virgins represents a snapshot of Virgin's catalogue circa 1981, but no claims about its reception, commercial performance, or significance beyond the documented facts can be made on current evidence. Fact checkers should verify track-level artist credits and confirm whether any vinyl pressing shares this catalog number before this entry is finalized.
