Listening notes

Released in 1996 on Vinyl Distribution Records, the Vinyl Distribution Compilation LP carries the catalog number VDLP 7 and sits within the drum n bass, electronic, and jungle genres. Spread across six sides, it is a multi-disc vinyl release presenting twelve tracks in total.

The tracklist opens with "The Licence (VIP Mix)" at five minutes and five seconds, followed on the B-side by "You" at five minutes and twelve seconds. The C-side carries two tracks: "First Sequence (VIP Mix)" running five minutes and forty seconds, and "The Greatest Thing (Summertime Mix)" at six minutes and two seconds. The D-side continues with "Mystical Horns (VIP Mix)" at five minutes and forty-six seconds, and "Music Is So Special," the longest of the first four sides at eight minutes and two seconds.

The E-side presents three tracks, each running at considerable length. "New Horizons" clocks in at seven minutes and forty-five seconds, followed by two untitled tracks at seven minutes and fifty seconds and eight minutes and two seconds respectively. The F-side closes the compilation with "Aspects & Inspirations (Part 2)" at seven minutes and twelve seconds, "Faceless" at seven minutes and six seconds, and "Grass Hopper" at five minutes and fifty-two seconds.

Several tracks bear VIP Mix or alternate mix designations, including "The Licence," "First Sequence," and "Mystical Horns," while "The Greatest Thing" is presented in a Summertime Mix. The presence of three sides containing two or three tracks each, combined with individual track durations frequently exceeding seven minutes, gives the release a cumulative runtime that is substantial for a compilation of its format. The two untitled tracks on the E-side are listed without titles in the available documentation.

The compilation is cataloged as a various artists release, with no individual artist credits confirmed in the available data.
