Various
Vinyl Box

Listening notes

Released in 2012 on the Dutch label Vinyl (11) under catalog number 2012, Vinyl Box is a various-artists compilation issued as a combined vinyl, CD, and box set package. The release brings together contributors working across an unusually wide range of registered genres, including darkwave, electro, electronic, experimental, industrial, minimal, noise, non-music, pop, rock, and synth-pop, suggesting a deliberately eclectic curatorial approach rather than a genre-specific document.

The vinyl component is divided between two contributors. Rats on Rafts occupy one record, with their side running eight tracks across positions A1 through B4, including titles such as "Number 22," "The Moon Is Big," "Patient," "God Is Dead," and "Sleeping In Rotterdam." A second vinyl contribution is credited to Ultra, listed separately without individual track positions in the available data.

The CD component is considerably larger, running to at least 32 numbered positions. The majority of tracks are listed without titles, catalogued simply as "Untitled." Exceptions include "A Couple Sat Down" at position CD-16 and "Reagering" at position CD-32.1. Track durations on the CD are documented and range from under a minute — CD-15 at 1:12 and CD-32.2 at 0:45 — to just over four minutes, with CD-8 the longest at 4:34. The combined CD runtime, based on listed durations, runs to approximately one hour and twenty minutes.

The catalog number doubling as the release year, the label name referencing the medium itself, and the box set format combining vinyl and CD all point to a release with a self-referential conceptual dimension, though the nature and extent of that concept are not documented in the available data. This draft requires verification of all artist credits, label details, and tracklist accuracy before publication.
