Delicious Vinyl All-Stars - Rmxxology Deluxe Edition

Listening notes

Released in 2008 on Delicious Vinyl (catalog number DVPRO2010), Delicious Vinyl All-Stars – Rmxxology Deluxe Edition is a two-disc CD compilation that gathers remixes of tracks from the label's catalog alongside a selection of original versions and additional material. The set spans a notably broad range of listed genres, among them hip hop, house, hip-house, funk and soul, disco, electro, breakbeat, abstract, pop, pop rock, rock, and folk, world, and country, suggesting an intentional cross-section of the label's output rather than a narrowly focused project.

Disc one contains fifteen tracks, all remixed versions, running just over an hour in total. Remixers credited across the tracklist include Diplo, Hot Chip, Peaches, Breakbot, Mr. Flash, Don Rimini, Pink Enemy, and Aaron LaCrate and Debonair Samir, the latter pair appearing on four separate remixes. Several of the source tracks are drawn from recognizable titles in the Delicious Vinyl back catalog, including "Bust A Move," "Wild Thing," "Funky Cold Medina," "Passin' Me By," and "Runnin'." An opening track, "Freak-A-Zoid Robotz (RMXXOLOGY Theme)," appears to have been created specifically for this project, as its title references the compilation itself.

Disc two mirrors much of disc one's remix content in instrumental form, accounting for eleven of its fifteen tracks. The remaining four positions on the second disc present what appear to be original or alternate versions of selected songs, including "Wild Thing," "Know How," "Soul Flower (Remix)," and "Born To Roll," giving the set some additional archival dimension beyond the remix focus.

The deluxe designation and the dual-disc format suggest this was positioned as a more comprehensive edition, though the verified facts on hand do not speak to whether a standard edition existed or what distinctions may have separated the two. What the tracklist does confirm is a release built around the remix as a format, with the instrumental disc doubling the utility of the set for those with an interest in the constituent elements of the tracks themselves.
