Listening notes
Released by Universal Music in 2015, The Vinyl Collection 79-84 (catalog number 4733760) is a seven-LP box set gathering Simple Minds' studio albums from the first five years of their recorded output. The set brings together Life In A Day, Real To Real Cacophony, Empires And Dance, Sons And Fascination, Sister Feelings Call, New Gold Dream (81-82-83-84), and Sparkle In The Rain under a single package, presenting them in the order in which they originally appeared.
The tracklist follows each album's standard sequence across fourteen sides of vinyl. Life In A Day opens the collection across records one and two, running from "Someone" through "Murder Story." Real To Real Cacophony follows, its second side closing on "Scar." Empires And Dance occupies the third record, ending with "Room" on its B-side. Sons And Fascination and Sister Feelings Call share records four and five respectively, a pairing that reflects the circumstances under which those two titles were originally issued together. New Gold Dream (81-82-83-84) fills record six, while Sparkle In The Rain closes the set on record seven, its B-side concluding with "Shake Off The Ghosts."
The date range in the title, 1979 to 1984, corresponds to the period covered by the seven albums included. The box set is listed under the Pop genre. No track durations are documented in the available catalog data.
