Saxon
The Vinyl Hoard

Listening notes

Released in 2016 on Demon Records, The Vinyl Hoard (catalog number SAXONBOX02) is a box set collecting live material from the British heavy metal band Saxon across four documented sources: The Dogs Of War Tour 1995, The Lionheart Tour 2005, A Night Out With The Boys 2005, and the Rock Sound Festival 2006. The set spans sixteen sides of vinyl, labeled A through P.

The Dogs Of War Tour 1995 portion occupies sides A through D and draws on material from across Saxon's catalog up to that point, with titles including "Princess Of The Night," "Denim And Leather," "Wheels Of Steel," and "Dogs Of War" appearing alongside tracks such as "Crusader" and "Solid Ball Of Rock."

Sides E through H present The Lionheart Tour 2005, which includes a version of "The Court Of The Crimson King" alongside Saxon originals. The A Night Out With The Boys 2005 content runs from side I through side L, again featuring a range of titles drawn from different periods of the band's output, including "Never Surrender," "Backs To The Wall," and "Wheels Of Steel."

The final section, the Rock Sound Festival 2006, fills sides M through P and includes performances of "Heavy Metal Thunder," "Motorcycle Man," "Strong Arm Of The Law," and "Witchfinder General," among others. Several titles — among them "Crusader," "Solid Ball Of Rock," "Dogs Of War," "Wheels Of Steel," and "Princess Of The Night" — appear more than once across the four source recordings.

The set is cataloged under the genres Heavy Metal and Rock. [DRAFT — unreviewed; personnel, pressing details, and all contextual claims require independent verification before publication.]
