Rainbow
Finyl Vinyl

Listening notes

Released in 1986 on Mercury Records (catalog number 422 827 987-1 M-2), Finyl Vinyl is a double-album compilation from Rainbow spanning two records and four sides. Falling under the hard rock and rock genres, the set brings together fourteen tracks drawn from the band's catalog, running a considerable total length across its sides.

The tracklist is spread deliberately across the four sides. Side A opens with "Spotlight Kid" at five minutes, followed by "I Surrender" at five minutes and forty-five seconds, and "Miss Mistreated" at three minutes and twenty-one seconds. Side B carries five tracks: "Jealous Lover," "Can't Happen Here," "Tearin' Out My Heart," "Since You Been Gone," and "Bad Girl," the longest of these being "Tearin' Out My Heart" at eight minutes and four seconds.

Side C moves into notably extended territory. "Difficult To Cure" runs eleven minutes and fifteen seconds, making it the longest individual track on the release, followed by "Stone Cold" and "Power." Side D closes the set with three tracks: "Man On The Silver Mountain" at eight minutes and twenty seconds, "Long Live Rock 'n' Roll" at seven minutes and twelve seconds, and "Weiss Heim" at five minutes and ten seconds.

The four-sided format accommodates a combined runtime that would exceed standard single-album constraints, and the inclusion of several tracks exceeding seven and eight minutes suggests programming choices made with the vinyl format's per-side capacity in mind. Whether a collector is cataloging this release or sourcing a copy, the Mercury pressing carries the catalog number 422 827 987-1 M-2 as the identifying reference point for this specific edition.
