Rainbow
Finyl Vinyl

Listening notes

Released in 1986 on PolyGram (catalog number 827 987-1), Finyl Vinyl is a double-album vinyl compilation by Rainbow, spanning four sides across two records. Falling under the hard rock and rock genres, the set brings together fourteen tracks drawn from the band's catalog, with a combined runtime that makes substantial use of the double-LP format.

The tracklist is notable for its range of track lengths. Side A opens with "Spotlight Kid" at five minutes, followed by "I Surrender" at five minutes and forty-five seconds and "Miss Mistreated" at a comparatively compact three minutes and twenty-one seconds. Side B carries five tracks, including "Tearin' Out My Heart," which runs to eight minutes and four seconds and stands as one of the longer entries across the four sides. "Since You Been Gone" and "Bad Girl" close out that side at three minutes forty seconds and four minutes forty-eight seconds respectively.

Side C is anchored by "Difficult To Cure," the single longest track on the release at eleven minutes and fifteen seconds, followed by "Stone Cold" and "Power." Side D rounds out the collection with three tracks: "Man On The Silver Mountain" at eight minutes and twenty seconds, "Long Live Rock 'n' Roll" at seven minutes and twelve seconds, and "Weiss Heim" closing the record at five minutes and ten seconds. The two tracks on Side D that exceed seven minutes give the final side a notably extended character compared to much of the preceding material.

Finyl Vinyl was issued at a point when the double-LP compilation remained a standard format for surveying a rock act's output, and the PolyGram release represents the label's packaging of Rainbow's recorded work in that form. Collectors and researchers consulting this entry should verify all additional details — including personnel, individual track origins, and pressing variants — independently.
