Jackson 5, The
Soul Source Jackson 5 Remixes 2 (Vinyl Three)

Listening notes

Released in 2001 on Motown with catalog number UPJH-1022, Soul Source Jackson 5 Remixes 2 (Vinyl Three) is one component of a larger remix project built around the Jackson 5 catalog. This particular vinyl pressing presents four tracks across two sides, each reworked by different contributors and tagged to genres spanning downtempo, electronic, future jazz, and house.

Side A opens with a DJ Spinna Mix of "We're Almost There," running at six minutes and thirteen seconds, followed by a remix of "Good Thing Goin'" that carries an extended Japanese-language subtitle and clocks in at four minutes and fifty-two seconds. Side B offers a Justa Roots Rock Mix of "ABC" at an even five minutes, and closes with an SSY Mix of "Ain't No Sunshine" at four minutes and fifty-nine seconds.

The release draws on songs that span different periods of the Jackson 5's time with Motown, ranging from the early crossover success of "ABC" to the more introspective "We're Almost There." By routing these recordings through remixers working in house and downtempo frameworks, the project repositions familiar material within club-oriented and electronic contexts that were current in Japan's music scene at the time of release, where the Soul Source series originated.

As Vinyl Three within the second volume of the series, this pressing is one part of what was structured as a multi-volume, multi-disc project. Collectors and researchers approaching the Soul Source series should account for its serialized format when cataloging individual components. The catalog number UPJH-1022 corresponds specifically to this pressing and should be used to distinguish it from companion volumes and other releases in the broader series.
