DJ Rectangle
Vinyl Combat 2 : Attack Of The Clones

Listening notes

DJ Rectangle's Vinyl Combat 2: Attack Of The Clones was released in 2002 on Out Tha Trunk Kutz, carrying the catalog number OTTK1121CD. Despite the vinyl reference in the title, the release exists in CD format. It is catalogued under the genres of Cut-up/DJ, Electronic, Hip Hop, Pop Rap, and Thug Rap.

The disc spans 49 tracks, a number that reflects a structural approach common to DJ mix and cut-up releases: shorter transitional or interstitial pieces alternating with longer full-length cuts. Tracks such as "Hand To Table" (0:44), "Cube / Oh Boy" (0:44), and "Midsectro" (0:43) sit alongside more extended pieces like "Big Head" (3:20) and "Without Me" (4:02), the latter serving as the closing track at just over four minutes. Several tracks share titles with their preceding interstitials, suggesting a sequenced presentation where brief spoken or scratched segments introduce what follows, as seen with the pairing of "Fabolous / Still Fly" (0:44) leading into "Still Fly" (2:08), and "Bad Boy / Connected For Life" (0:40) preceding "Connected For Life" (2:44).

Track titles including "Cube / Oh Boy," "Meth & Red / From The Yard," and "Dre / Here We Go" point to the artist name-checking or incorporating material associated with prominent hip-hop figures of the era, consistent with the cut-up DJ format the release is filed under.

The total runtime, calculated from the tracklist, runs approximately 80 minutes. The release is the second entry in Rectangle's Vinyl Combat series, as indicated by the subtitle's numbering, with the full title borrowing its Attack Of The Clones designation from 2002 popular culture.
