Blake Lewis
Heartbreak On Vinyl

Listening notes

Blake Lewis's *Heartbreak On Vinyl* arrived in 2010 on Tommy Boy Records, catalogued as TB-1745-1. Released as a vinyl edition, the record spans a double-LP format across four sides, accommodating thirteen tracks with a total runtime that runs well past the fifty-minute mark.

The album's genre classifications — Electronic, Europop, Hip Hop, Pop, and Synth-pop — point to a deliberately eclectic range of influences, and the tracklist itself reflects that breadth. Side A opens with the title track at three minutes and fifty-seven seconds before moving through "Binary Love" and the longer "Freak," which clocks in at four minutes and twenty-seven seconds. Side B carries four and a half minutes each for both "Sad Song" and "Left My Baby For You," the latter actually appearing on Side C. "Rhythm Of My Heart" and "Afraid" round out the second side.

Side C is the most varied of the four in terms of track length. It includes "Left My Baby For You" at four minutes and fifty-nine seconds and "Our Rapture Of Love" at four minutes and forty-three seconds, but also "SuperScratchaVocalisticTurnatablelicious," a one-minute-and-three-second interlude whose title signals an explicit nod to turntablism and vocal performance. That track sits at position C3, sandwiched between "Rebel Without A Cause" and the closing Side C number.

Side D brings the record to a close with three tracks: "The Point," "The Remedy," and "Love Or Torture (Please Don't Stop)," the last of which runs nearly five minutes and serves as the album's final selection.

Tommy Boy, the label responsible for this release, has a documented history in hip-hop and dance music, which aligns with at least part of this record's stated genre range. Beyond the details confirmed in the label and catalog data, this draft does not speculate on pressing specifics, personnel, or the album's broader context.
