Listening notes
Released by Demon Records in 2015 under catalog number DEMRECBOX06, The Vinyl Collection 1979–1999 is a box set gathering eight Pretenders albums across nine vinyl records. The title span — 1979 to 1999 — marks the range covered by the included titles, which are presented in chronological release order: Pretenders, Pretenders II, Learning To Crawl, Get Close, Packed!, Last Of The Independents, The Isle Of View, and ¡Viva El Amor!.
The set is catalogued under the genres of new wave, pop rock, and rock. Each studio album occupies a single LP, with the exception of The Isle Of View, which spreads across two records and four sides, accommodating a tracklist that runs from side A through side D. That album also accounts for the set's only appearances of certain track configurations not found elsewhere in the collection — among them a D-side pairing of "I Go To Sleep" and "Revolution."
Several titles recur across different albums in the set. "Sense Of Purpose" appears on both Packed! and The Isle Of View, as do "Chill Factor," "Private Life," "Back On The Chain Gang," "Kid," "I Hurt You," "Criminal," "Brass In Pocket," "2000 Miles," "Hymn To Her," "Lovers Of Today," and "The Phone Call" — reflecting the live or alternative configurations that distinguish those later appearances from their studio counterparts. "I Go To Sleep" and "Revolution" also appear in more than one context within the collection.
The box set does not appear to include any material outside the eight named albums. No bonus tracks, inserts, or supplementary content are indicated by the available information. Fact checker should confirm pressing details, any included printed materials, and whether individual LP weights or specifications are documented.
