Beastie Boys
Show Vinyl Record 5 Misc. Breaks

Listening notes

Released in 1998 on Grand Royal, the Beastie Boys' own label, Show Vinyl Record 5 Misc. Breaks carries the catalog number BB-SV-5-A/B and falls under the hip hop genre. The release is a vinyl record containing a total of 39 tracks spread across two sides.

Side A holds 22 tracks, nearly all running under 90 seconds, with several coming in well under a minute. Titles such as "Gorilla Beat," "Mellow Man," "Green Street Intro-Green St. Beat," "Nubian Re-Make," and "Cosmic Trance Beat" populate the first side alongside shorter entries like "Physical" at 11 seconds, "The Bridge" at 14 seconds, and "The Bridge Horns" at 12 seconds. The side closes with "Brick House" at 26 seconds. The full run of Side A reflects the brief, self-contained nature common to break-focused material, with most cuts hovering near the one-minute mark.

Side B's 17 tracks tend to run slightly longer on average, though still compact. Titles including "Make The Music," "Knowledge Me," "White Lotus," "The Humpty Dance," and "Beat Bop" appear alongside entries such as "Biz Beat Box," the shortest on the side at 22 seconds. Side B closes with "Check Out How We Rock" at 1 minute and 16 seconds.

The word "Breaks" in the title and the consistent brevity of nearly every track across both sides point to the functional character of this release within the broader catalog framework implied by the "Show Vinyl" series designation and its numbered position as volume five.
